ABOUT LIVING GRACE
Living Grace is a multi-faceted non-profit organization that advocates and provides resources for students in grades K-12 identified as homeless to ensure academic success. We serve with fidelity and advocate for equity and access to ensure students protected under the McKinney-Vento Act receive resources needed to be productive citizens in the community. Living Grace started with one student, one teacher and one empty desk drawer. During the fall semester of 2015, Founder & Executive Director, Sheleah Harris, noticed a drastic change in behavior of one student. After a short, private conversation, homelessness was the root. With limited community resources available for homeless children, she emptied one of her desk drawers and filled it with snacks, travel size toiletries and school supplies, easily accessible for the student in need. In obedience to God's Voice, Sheleah Harris created Living Grace as an organization focused on serving students in Memphis who faced housing insecurity. The focus was to ensure children had adequate supplies for academic success through providing school supplies, toiletries, transportation, and college and career readiness support. Officially established as a 501(c)3 on February 12, 2016, Living Grace serves students in North & South Memphis, Orange Mound and Whitehaven each school year at no cost to the school or families.
Through strong partnerships, we deliver Grace Bags full of school supplies and toiletries each month to our adopted schools. By collaborating with school counselors and administrators, we are able to accurately identify our target youth and serve with fidelity. Living Grace serves students in grades K-12 protected under the McKinney- Vento Act. Every academic year, Living Grace partners with schools in Memphis and collaborates with counselors and social workers to accurately identify students in need. Each month, we provide free "Grace Bags" full of toiletries and school supplies through a point of contact at each adopted school.
